@FarmWifeyBlog #2017BestNine
I think the word that best describes my 2017 is Change. There have been some major changes that have happened and some little ones that seemed to make big differences. Here are just some of the highlights for me…
The Farmer and I woke up on New Years Day as a married couple. Our wedding was the perfect day spent with our friends and family as we said goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017 and married life. Our honeymoon in Los Cabos was a dream. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start out the new year.
Not long after we got home from our honeymoon, we went on a trip with our dear friends to Las Vegas to see George Straight. It was a check off my bucket list and I am so glad I was able to experience this with my best friends.
Once the excitement of the wedding and our trips started to wear off, it was time to get real and adjust to living on the farm. I won’t lie – this was and still is, at times, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. We don’t live too far away from town but some days it felt like 100’s of miles. Getting up everyday to go to work in town to a job that was, in my words, slowly stealing my spirit on top of adjusting to married life was paralyzing. I tried to be strong as long as I could to keep my anxiety under control with the strategies I had learned, but it became to be too much. I finally reached out for more support and I thank God everyday for the strength it took to do that. I now wake up everyday and look out my window and see what a blessing it is to live out here with my Farmer.
The biggest change I made in 2017 was deciding to quit my job. I had taken a much-needed break from work over the summer months to try to get back on track mentally. While I was away from work I started to slowly help out around the farm doing some things here and there. It started to become more of an everyday thing and soon I was driving a tractor, swather, combine, etc. and LOVING it. Being able to look back on the fields to see the work that you’ve accomplished that day was instant gratification for me. Not to mention the gratification I received from seeing how proud my Farmer was of me. I was hooked. I knew that going back to my job was no longer an option for me.
I have also had the opportunity for some personal growth, development, and outreach in 2017. I started my Instagram page in early 2017 and this blog in the Fall to connect with other farm wives from around the world and have developed some truly meaningful relationships. I am constantly amazed and inspired by this group of strong, intelligent, and wonderful women. I look forward to connecting with more in the future.
I became a Hemp Ambassador for Manitoba Harvest in the Fall of 2017 to help expand brand awareness. The Farmer and I grow hemp for this great company so I thought it would be a good opportunity to show people the beginning, middle, and end stages of where their food comes from. So far it has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to working with Manitoba Harvest in the future.
More on the personal development front, I have had the pleasure to work with PerfectFit4U to help shape and build a balanced lifestyle that works for me. I look forward to continuing working with them in 2018. I also have to give a BIG shout out to Kinetic Indoor Cycle & Fitness for being my home away from home in 2017. I have recently started working there part time too which I am SO excited about!
Those are just some of the highlights from this past year. I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for me. I thank you all for following along with my ramblings and hope you take some time to reflect on your own 2017. All the best and many blessings to you in 2018!
Much love,
K.
