I was contacted by WAMA Underwear through my DM’s on Instagram about trying their Hemp Underwear. They shipped me a pair of their Women’s Hipster Panties to try them out. As a bonus, they also included one of their new Hemp Pouch Bags. As a hemp producer, I am always trying to find products that use this multipurpose plant for more than just to eat (which our crops are mainly used for).
The hemp used in WAMA’s material blend is sourced from China, which is currently the world’s leading producer of hemp and hemp textiles. In 2017, the cultivated area for hemp in the Prairie provinces include Saskatchewan with more than 56,000 acres (23,000 ha), Alberta with 45,000 acres (18,000 ha), and Manitoba with 30,000 acres (12,000 ha). Canadian hemp is cultivated mostly for its food value as hulled hemp seeds, hemp oils and hemp protein powders, with only a small fraction devoted to production of hemp fiber used for construction and insulation.
Why choose Hemp?
Hemp is naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial with ani-odour properties making it the perfect fabric to go near your private, in my opinion. Here’s a few other reasons why we should choose hemp:
-Hemp is stronger and more durable than any other natural fabric, including linen, which almost matches hemps’ abrasion resistance and tensile strength. The result is that hemp has a longer lifespan than other natural fabrics
-Not only is hemp strong, but it also holds its shape, stretching less than any other natural fiber.
-Hemp may be known for its durability, but its comfort and style are second to none. The more hemp is used, the softer it gets: it wears in, not out, thriving on regular use and machine washing without suffering fabric degradation. Hemp actually becomes softer, more resilient and more lustrous as a result of washing.
What I like about WAMA Underwear
GOTS – The Global Organic Textile Standard
The WAMA company has chosen to work with manufacturers that are GOTS certified. This means they have specific criterias that must be met when it comes to the materials that are being used as well as social and environmental impact. You can learn more about the GOTS certification here.
They Test Their Products
WAMA tests their final products to see what the fabric is actually made of and are transparent about it! Sometimes when manufacturing a product, there can be mix ups. They want to make sure the hemp underwear you receive ACTUALLY has hemp in it making sure you get what you pay for.
They care about being Eco-Friendly
WAMA encourages you to make the switch to their Hemp underwear in a eco-friendly way. They encourage their customers not to throw out all their old undies, but to donate, recycle, reuse, or compost their old underwear. Making the switch to a greener option doesn’t mean we have to cause harm to the environment in the process! PLUS – I was SUPER impressed with the packaging I received in the mail as it was 100% recycled materials that are also reusable & recyclable.
My final thoughts…
Seriously, who knew so much went into making a pair of undies right? Needless to say, I’m obsessed with my new WAMA Hipster Panties. Do you want to try them out too? Here’s three things you need to know before you order:
- SIZE UP! WAMA recommends if you’re between sizes to size up for a looser more spacious fit. They fit perfectly, anything smaller would have shown some serious cheek! ☺
- You pay for quality. When you make the conscious decision to start buying a more sustainable and reliable product you will notice the cost difference. These ain’t the 5 for $20 special you get at Victoria Secret that you’ll be getting rid of in 8 months. Quality over Quantity!
- I HAVE A COUPON CODE FOR YOU! Use the coupon code WILDROSEFARMER10 at check out to save 10% off your order. YOU. ARE. WELCOME.
Happy shopping friends!
