Opening a Farm Store with Jillian Byers
On this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast, you’ll meet Jillian Byers. Jillian along with her family own and operate Blue Ridge Farms located in Blue Ridge, Alberta approximately 1.5 hours northwest of Edmonton, Alberta. They started their operation in 2011 with 7 heifers, a dog and two cats and now are raising 400 head of cattle, pasture raised poultry, and free range pastured pork. Jillian sold their farm goods at a number of farmers markets and in 2019 made the leap into starting their own farm store. Today she shares with us her journey through Agriculture and how they grew their family business.
Review of The Week
Love from a non-farming rural woman!

“I live in a county surrounded by farms but am not from a farming background myself. I’ve dreamed of homesteading one day and stumbled upon this delightful podcast. I love hearing about how the women interviewed found their way into agriculture, but more importantly, I leave each episode inspired because these women are female role models! In a time when the world feels like it’s falling apart, hearing conversations with a group of ladies that are wise, humble, and take such excellent care of their land and their communities is a breath of fresh air! I love this podcast. Thank you, Katelyn, for bringing these women’s voices into my earbuds (as well as your own)!”
