The Rural Woman Podcast Episode 148 – Supporting Your Immune System with Food with Chelsie Boles

Supporting Your Immune System with Food with Chelsie Boles

Chelsie is a first-generation female farmer in Michigan, who’s been on a health and healing journey for over 10 years. Her and her husband Rob left a very cozy life to start their own 65-acre regenerative farm from scratch. Rob quit his job in the family business and sold most of his ownership shares to invest in property for the farm dream. Chelsie was a middle school art teacher at the time and continued to teach until her second child of 4 was born, to stay home with them and help grow the business.

They began their journey because of the myriad of health issues Chelsie had, which lead them to the healing power of food. They had a hard time locating the quality meats they wanted back in 2011 and became passionate about sourcing. After discovering the work of Joel Salatin and The Weston A Price Foundation, they couldn’t stop thinking about food and farming and decided to jump in. Currently, they raise pastured poultry for meat and eggs and are working towards adding beef and pork to the farm. As their family grew, it became more difficult to get it all done as quickly as they had hoped.

Their journey has been slow and steady. They had all four of our babies at home, which was unlike anything anyone had done in their families or circle of friends. Chelsie’s only sibling passed away in 2020 after struggling her whole life with serious health issues. Watching her struggles, along with her own journey, Chelsie always felt there had to be more to health than what was typically presented.

She wanted to find a different way to raise her children, and to hopefully prevent illness, rather than combat it as it came. Home-birth, farming, homesteading, canning, and meal prepping are all things that she has worked hard to make the foundation for their health journey. Chelsie shares this all on social media and soon more on her new blog.
