THIS WEEK, WE’RE LAUNCHING A NEW SERIES ON THE RURAL WOMAN PODCAST, INSPIRED BY AUTHOR, SPEAKER, PHOTOGRAPHER, PROUD FARM WIFE AND MOTHER, BILLI J. MILLER. TO CELEBRATE THE PODCAST’S 5TH ANNIVERSARY, BILLI IS JOINING ME AS A CO-HOST TO FEATURE AND EXPLORE THE LIVES OF SOME SPECIAL, YOUNG RURAL WOMEN – FARM KIDS! THIS SERIES IS FILLED WITH HEARTWARMING, ENLIGHTENING AND HUMOROUS STORIES.

Ayla Hill is a 10-year-old farm kid who loves dance, chick days, baby cows and running around her property with friends and her younger brother in tow. Her farm is Snowy River Farms located in Cooks Brook Nova Scotia where her mom manages the hogs, chickens, gardens and family cow while her dad works off the farm as a carpenter. The farm was established only two years before she was born so, while this was a new sector for her mom to enter into, it is all Ayla has ever known!

In Billi J. Miller’s fourth book celebrating farm life, she delves into what it means to be a farm kid through the ages, starting with her husband’s 100-year-old grandmother. She explores childhood memories, daily routines, and weekend activities on the farm, presenting a touching and vivid portrayal. The book is filled with humorous and heartfelt stories from children of different generations, capturing the essence of farm life with honesty and warmth.

“Farm Kids: Stories from Our Lives” includes a special chapter where farmers share what they wish non-farmers knew, aiming to bridge the gap between urban and rural perspectives. Billi’s captivating storytelling is informed by her life on a 111-year-old farm in Alberta, where she lives with her husband and two children. Since marrying a fourth-generation farmer in 2010, she has been sharing stories of Canadian farm life through her books and speaking engagements.

Billi writes from her home office or favorite coffee shops and speaks passionately about farm life at events across Canada and the US. Her ability to connect with her audience through personal experiences and captivating stories leaves attendees moved, encouraged, and inspired for the future. Billi J. Miller’s natural talent for storytelling and meaningful connection shines through in her writing and public speaking.
