Harvest ‘26 in the bin. Harvest ‘26 in the bin.
Nothing on this table looks wrong. That’s the thin Nothing on this table looks wrong. That’s the thing about economic abuse. It can hide in the ordinary: who holds the wallet, whose name is on the card, who decides what goes in the grocery bag.

Economic abuse is one of the most common types of abuse, but also one of the least understood. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, income or background, and many people have experienced it without recognizing it as abuse.

The Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters is running a province-wide survey to better understand what Albertans know and have experienced when it comes to economic abuse, and where greater awareness and support may be needed.

You don’t need to have experienced economic abuse to participate. The survey is open to all Albertans 18+ and takes just 10–15 minutes.

Take the survey by October 5th: acws.ca/economic-abuse

We celebrated The United Nations International Yea We celebrated The United Nations International Year of The Woman Farmer last night at the Calgary Stampede.

It was an honour to be recognized alongside the women in our industry that I love so much. They have inspired me in my Ag journey and couldn’t be more grateful for them.

Thank you to @stampede_ag for recognizing the importance, and beauty, that women bring to the Ag industry.

Women have always been essential to agriculture - what is shifting now is the visibility. Being a woman in ag today means I get to walk the path that others are watching, and maybe make it a little easier for the woman coming behind me.

I’m so grateful to be among the @calgarystampede’s IYWF2026 showcase. Thank you @stampede_ag for sharing our stories.
“Weren’t you scared?” is one of the most common qu “Weren’t you scared?” is one of the most common questions I’m asked.

And, undoubtedly, the answer is yes.

Yes, I was scared to drive a lawnmower.
Yes, I was scared to start a podcast.
Yes, I was scared to speak on stage.

I did it scared.

I did it scared enough times to start wondering what else I could do scared.

And it turns out, I can do a lot of cool shit.

I started white knuckling on lawnmower ended up in the combine all harvest long. I started with a google search of ‘how to start a podcast’ and have over a million downloads of @theruralwomanpodcast. I had a boss tell me I belonged behind the scenes and now I’m on stage telling my story.

Courage comes before confidence. If we don’t do it scared, we might not end up where we’re meant to be.

Tell me in the comments what’s something that you’ve done scared.

And yes, I went back and fixed it. I think.

Learning to drive our ‘new’ tractor was an adventure. I don’t hate it, but I prefer the tractors that have less levers, more buttons, and a less essential clutch. Proudly millennial since the 1900s.
