On this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcas On this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast, you’ll meet Rachel Jarman. Rachel grew up on a grain farm in Ohio and participated in 4-h for 10 years. She attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a BS in Agriculture systems management. In 2017 Rachel and her husband started their own mixed operation, @bankbarnmeats , where they now direct market hand raised pork, chicken, lamb and beef. Rachel transitioned from working full time in a corporate ag job to working part time as a Rural Rehabilitation Coordinator for Ohio AgrAbility in May of 2019 . As a Rural Rehabilitation Coordinator her job is to help farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers find equipment and technologies that make their work on their operation easier. That can range from upgrading steps or a seat on the tractor all the way to adding a lift to a tractor or truck so even a farmer with paralysis or loss of use of limbs can still access and operate equipment. Rachel says getting the opportunity to see these individuals get their independence back is the most rewarding job she could ever ask for. Jessika is a Ho-Chunk Nation tribal member from Baraboo, WI and a member of the Deer Clan. She is currently the Seed Keeper and Farm Manager at Dream of Wild Health. @dreamofwildhealth is an intertribal, independent nonprofit that serves the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Native American community. Each year Dream of Wild Health teaches Native American youth about gardening, cooking, and culture while developing job and leadership skills throughout youth programs. Dream of Wild Health runs a CSA called the Indigenous Food Share (IFS) and sells produce at three farmers markets in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Prior to her time DWH. Jessika has worked as the Agricultural Division Manager for her nation and has previously served as a garden mentor within her Nation’s organic community gardens. Self care is a beautiful thing. My definition of Self care is a beautiful thing. My definition of self care has changed significantly over the last five+ years. Though I love spending time getting pampered, like I did today from the beautiful @_sheariously + my friends @organictanlethbridge, that’s not what completes my definition. Self care to me is setting boundaries, saying no, and protecting my yes. Having meaningful connection & conversation with amazing people I call my friends. Building a bigger table online.
